London:

Four time Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel had been almost forced to quit Grand Prix racing in 2014 in fury at rule changes, that wrecked his domination of the sport, his former boss Christian Horner has claimed.

As Red Bull prepared for the first test of the new season in Spain, starting Sunday, the team chief revealed the torment that led to Vettel leaving for Ferrari.

Horner said that there was a stage last year where Vettel thought about whether he wanted to stop or not, whether the German was getting the same level of enjoyment and wanted to continue, the Mirror reported.

Horner said that the German was unhappy with Formula One, as the previous four years had been so successful in a car he loved driving and suddenly things were very different.

The Red Bull chief claimed that it was like somebody had taken Vettel’s toy away and took him a while to get a grip with that. So, he added that the German went through a period of disillusion with Formula One, not Red Bull but the direction the sport was going in and was a bit outspoken in his views.
