Mumbai:

A city-based activist has moved a local court seeking action against a US-based beer manufacturing company for using the picture of Mahatma Gandhi on its label.

“The beer called ‘Gandhi Bot’ is sold and marketed in the country with Gandhiji’s picture on the label. Using the picture of Mahatama Gandhi on beer cans is deeply offensive and wrong,” activist Vivek Shetty said in the complaint filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court Andheri yesterday.

According to him, the company that manufactures the beer carries a tagline ‘An ideal aid for self purification and the seeking for truth and love’.

The complainant has sought that the company be booked for printing and selling goods that defamed Mahatma Gandhi.

The court is yet to take cognisance of the complaint.
