New Delhi:

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday cornered the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the issue of women security and alleged that a party with a medieval mindset can never give protection to the feminine gender.

Kejriwal alleged the BJP declaration says that the saffron party is contesting the Delhi assembly polls on four issues, one of them being women security.

"The Prime Minister has spoken on all these four issues. The Prime Minister said that security will be given to women. He had prior to the Lok Sabha polls said that 'Bahut hua nari par var, abkibaar Modi sarkar'. The people had expected that the Prime Minister would deliver the promises that he made, but the fact is that cases of rapes have increased by 25 percent in the national capital in the last seven months," said Kejriwal at a public rally in Tughlakabad.

"I want to ask the Prime Minister that if he couldn't stop the rising cases of rape in the last seven months then how he would provide security to women in the next five years," he added.

In an endeavour to garner support of the feminine gender, Kejriwal highlighted the anti-women comments made by several BJP leaders in the past few months.

"One BJP leader says that a woman should produce four kids while the other says that a woman should produce five kids. Their third leader Khattar sahab, who is the chief minister of Haryana, says that he would not allow the women and girls to wear jeans," said Kejriwal.

"One leader says that women should not use mobile phones, the other says that women should not be given education. ......A party with such a mindset can never give protection to women. They are going to take the country 800 years back instead of taking it forward," he added.

The AAP chief further said that his party would install CCTV cameras, depute a security guard in buses and provide free Wi-fi facility in the whole city in order to ensure that crime against women does not take place.

Kejriwal's comment came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the AAP of backstabbing the people of Delhi.

Addressing an election rally in Vishwas Nagar earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party ran away from their responsibilities and added that the people of the country gave them a befitting reply in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

"The people you voted to power a year ago back stabbed Delhi, betrayed Delhi," said Prime Minister Modi.

"No one can fool the people repeatedly and be successful," he added.

Prime Minister Modi said that he wants an opportunity to serve every neighbourhood of Delhi.

"I have now come to stay in Delhi because you have called me here. If the people of Delhi hadn't given me seven MPs, would it have been possible for me to come to Delhi," he asked.

The elections for 70-member Delhi Assembly will take place on February 7 while the results will be announced on February 10.
