Dehradun:

The Raj Bhawan lawns will burst in a blaze of colours today as a three-day spring festival begins there with a wide variety of flowers grown in Uttarakhand to be put on display at the annual event.

A philately exhibition by India Posts will also be a part of this year’s event where stamps depicting flowers will be put on exhibition, Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul told reporters while briefing them about different features of the show.

Expressing happiness over India Posts participation in the event, Chief Post Master General India Posts (Uttarakhand) Udai Krishna said it is a matter of great pleasure for India posts to be part of events based on social values.

About 2,000 postage stamps from the Governor’s personal collection will also be put up at the spring festival, Udai Krishna said.

Paul described himself as a passionate philatelist who has been collecting postage stamps for the past 60 years.

Asked about the size of his personal collection, he said it was ten times bigger than what is being put on display at the event this year.

“Apart from showcasing the beautiful flowers grown in Uttarakhand, the purpose of this show is to seek out entrepreneurs who could develop internationally marketable varieties of flowers including orchids,” the Governor said.

Named “Basantotsav”, the festival has been taking place at the Raj Bhawan lawns since 2003.
