New Delhi:

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has moved to a sprawling bungalow in the capital’s Akbar Road with his next door neighbour being Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

Ten months after assuming the charge of the sensitive Home Ministry, Singh moved to 17, Akbar Road, a Type VIII bungalow, in Delhi’s high-profile Lutyens zone on Friday, an auspicious day in Hindu calendar on account of ‘Ashtami’.

The Home Minister had been staying at 38, Ashoka Road, a Type VII bungalow, as the new alloted house was not ready since its previous occupant, former Union minister Chiranjeevi, vacated it only in January.

The Ashoka Road house proved lucky for Singh as he went on become Uttar Pradesh Pradesh and twice Union minister and BJP president during the 19 years of his stay.

Special security features have been added in the new house of the 63-year-old leader, who gets Z-plus security due to a high level of threat perception.

Two spacious lawns are the added attraction of the new bungalow, which has a separate set-up for office, visitors meeting place and designated areas for holding a large security paraphernalia of men and machines.

The entire campus is being secured with the deployment of additional gadgets, concertina wires on the boundary walls besides observation posts for armed guards from CRPF.

The new neighbours of the Home Minister include Mahajan, senior army officers and judges.
