Mumbai:

A joint commissioner of Income Tax was today arrested on the charge of stalking a woman. He was later released on bail.

Shridhar S Ramachandran (35), an Indian Revenue Service officer was arrested and produced in court which set him free on a bail of Rs 50,000, said Sandeep Patil, the police officer attached to the Kasturba Marg police station.

A case was registered under the sections 354 (d) (stalking) and 506 (intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. “We arrested him after the woman who lives in (suburban) Borivali filed a complaint,” Patil said.

Ramachandran is posted at Nadiyad in Gujarat and was in the city to appear before a court in connection with a case of molestation which the victim had filed against him in January this year. He was on interim bail in that case.

According to the woman, he went to her building this morning and when she and her husband objected, he threatened them.
