Best romantic comedy of Indian cinema that tickles the funny bone, arouses the emotions, touches the real notches of Indian society and also attempts to break the ice for traditional marriages.
Manu Bhaiya and Tanu Bhabhi return on-screen after four years with a tale of dramatic developments that kicks off with the side effects of a marriage to entangle emotions with laughter amid desires of many.
Manu (R Madhavan) is frustrated with the desires of his wife Tanu (Kangana Ranaut), who completely fails to get the man she used to love. She chose to return and spend some time with family. But, Indian family melodrama makes her life interesting and her old affairs with Raja Bhaiya and few more come as extra toppings.
As Manu tries a legal slap, Tanu comes up with illegal affairs to reignite love in her life. And, comes her desi version Kusum Datto Sangwan who wins Manu’s heart on the very first glimpse. Confused Manu tries a SRK style love proposal, reply comes “kya kar raha tha bahan faila ke, ye koi jagah hai Shah Rukh Khan banan ki (What are you doing with your arms open, is this any lace to become Shah Rukh Khan)”.
With all lost hopes to get Tanu back in his life he moves on to tie knot with Kusum and lands in a trouble of inter caste marriage. Without stirring the sensitive issue, director Anand L. Rai beautifully presents the message that for a successful marriage requirement is of love and not traditions.
Interestingly, Kusum is again the same girl Raja Bhaiya has agreed to tie knot after Manu had snatched his love Tanu four years back. So, if Manu succeeds in doing this it’s a double cross for Raja Bhaiya by a single person. What happens next will leave you spell bounded and claps for Kangana Ranaut.
Well, not everything is perfect so there were some elements which may turn on the bulbs in your mind and raise the question why this is not happening? But, if you can keep calm and watch it for thorough entertainment this might be your favourite movie of the season.
The best thing about the film is its characterisation, from small character like Komal to large ones like Kusum and Tanu, detailing and perfection seems to be the uttermost priority in it. Full marks go to Kangana Ranaut and also a huge round of applause for being a Haryanvi girl and also a modern one on the same platform.
R Madhavan didn’t get much to show what he is capable of and his acts were taking us back in memories of Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein. Though there is barely any replacement for him in the film but a bit more of his contribution may had changed things a bit.
Deepak Dobriyal is the man who kicks punches on every single occasion to burst laughter inside you. His act surpasses the line of supporting actor as at many points desire to see him more takes over the one to see the lead actors. This is one of the best acts he has delivered so far in his Bollywood career.
Jimmy Shergill's character disappoints a bit in terms of spacing and involvement with the film. He has been just used as an element and not utilised completely. With barely 4-5 dialogues he nails the acting charisma still many would wonder why he is not the one who drives the climax.
In terms of music, film has already acclaimed many playlists. Krsna Solo and Tanishk-Vayu has kept it very tradition and old school to mesmerise all. They have managed to deliver quirkiest Banno to emotional Mat Ja Re and also dramatic “Old School Girl”.
Final Verdict: After waiting for so long and craving for a good movie, Tanu weds Manu is a perfect family entertainer to treat you with. Go ahead and enjoy the film with all heart and no mind.
