Hyderabad:

The ‘Bhumi Puja’ (ground-breaking ceremony) for the new capital of Andhra Pradesh that would come up in Vijayawada region, would be held on June 6, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said here today.

The puja would be held at 8.49 AM. It would be a simple function and exact location would be announced later, he told reporters.

The state government would like to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a bigger, formal function later, possibly on Vijaya Dashmi day, he said.

“We are short of time. It is only informally, in a small way, we will do (the puja on June 6). Later we want to request the Prime Minister to come for laying the foundation stone of the new capital,” he said.

The new capital would be called Amaravati, after the historical town of Amaravati in Guntur district.

Naidu said Singapore government agencies which are preparing the master plan for the capital city, had submitted their reports.

“They have given capital region master plan details. They would give another report on the plan. After this, they are going to give ‘seed capital master plan details’,” he said.

“We are moving step by step. We are giving our ideas.  They are taking all the ideas while finalising master plan details. We are very happy. This is a unique experiment. We are thankful to Singapore government for helping us,” he added.
