New Delhi:

India is always fascinated by the foreign lands. The craze to become a ‘firangi’ lures on the mind of every Indian.

As soon as a student passes out of college, he/she is asked to opt for some scholarship programme which will lead them to their or their parents dream land.

Be it Canada, Australia, United Kingdom or California, Indians have travelled far off to gain permanent citizenships of the respective countries.

However, many a times this dream of several Indians have ended on a bad note. One word which might make you re-think your options of setting foot on foreign lands is ‘Racism’.

Several recent ordeals showing the targeted Indians have developed fear in the masses.

On May 28, a similar incident triggered mass protests in London. Jokes are Sikhs are very ‘cool’ and ‘in’ in India but the situation went awry when a Sikh boy was hounded by some Caucasian boys in UK. However, unlike many Indians, who in past have faced battered attacks, this skinny-looking boy decided to hit back at bullies, literally.

A verbal argument which turns into a horrific encounter brought to the fore the racism lamest against Indians outside.

And, this is not the first time, Indians have been targeted from time to time in the hate crime act.

If you recall the horrific encounters where an early Sikh man was brutally assaulted with an Iron Rod in May 2013. Then some Gurdwaras were vandalised in California for the same reason. And the list goes on and on.

However, one thing is concerning here that major attacks have been made on Sikh and Muslim community for they are often referred to ‘Osama’ and ‘terrorists’ especially after the 9/11 attack.

Dark skin colour is another reason for these reported hate crimes. But what many don’t often realise is that Indians and foreigners are on the same side of the great skin divide; we all are humans existing together in the world.

But people still feel that they don’t know the real reason of the attacks? If they are patterned? If the attacks are concerned in a specific area or targeted towards a particular community? And then how many attacks could actually have a racist motive?

Even after so many probes and investigations, no country has been able to come to a common jurisdiction. It seems Indians are still in dark about the spate of attacks.

But, it is high time that people across the world take a common stand to protect rights of India with the common thought that help not hate is the way forward.

(Nearly 20 hate crime cases have been reported in media so far since 2013 (majorly in Canada, Manchester, London, and Australia); while many have gone unnoticed and unreported till date.
