PM Modi invites Arvind Kejriwal, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi for June 21 Yoga Day celebrations

The first International Yoga Day on June 21 will be celebrated in a befitting manner in India, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inviting Delhi Chief Arvind Kejriwal, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi to the event.

On Tuesday, Modi pitched for involvement of eminent yoga practitioners and spiritual leaders to make the event a success.

Modi chaired a high-level meeting here to review the preparations for that day. The events are likely to include a mass yoga programme at Rajpath here involving experts in this field, like Ramdev, sources said.

June 21 was declared as the International Yoga Day by the United Nations in December last year after Modi’s push.

Emphasizing that Yoga’s central theme is “synergy,” Modi today called for a coordinated effort, not only involving various  ministries and departments, but also with people’s active participation, to enable a befitting celebration for the first International Yoga Day,” a PMO statement said.

He called for the involvement of eminent yoga practitioners, spiritual leaders and other distinguished individuals from various walks of life, so as to make the event a success, it added.

The planning of activities and events on the Yoga Day should aim to make it a mass movement, all over the world, the Prime Minister said as he was given an overview of the preparations for the various events being planned in India and across the world to mark the day.
