New Delhi:

How smart a fourth grade dropout can be? Drishyam answers this while presenting how brain’s sharpness and smartness can be attained without mastering books. It also shows the strength of a family bond nurtured with trust.

The film, which is a remake of Malyalam movie with same name, engages audiences with a brand new and brilliant cast – Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran. The intensity in their acts for such a thriller drama turn out to be an asset for the movie.

Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn), who runs a cable network in a small town village in Goa, is a happy man living with his wife Nandini (Shriya Saran) and two daughters. Even with very less knowledge from books, he has worked real hard to learn techniques to tackle ups and downs of life. A man of few means and needs, Vijay’s world in his family.

A stranger tries to vandalize it and goes missing. Interestingly, he is the son of a headstrong and no-nonsense cop; IG Meera Deshmukh. Under evident circumstances, the Salgaonkar family turns out to be the prime suspect. As cops start investigations, a humble and middle class man begins his quick-witted journey to safeguard his family.

The smart act by family to misguide investigation of even smarter cops forms the rest of the film leading to an unexpected and shocking climax.

Plot is old! But, the act is refreshing and has all reasons to stand tall against the ongoing trend of Bollywood movies. The only fall sticks with the drama is that the suspense is not a mystery if anyone has managed to see any of the four southern versions of the film, especially recently released Kamal Haasan’s Paapnasham.

Even the substantial drama falls flat when background music at certain points comes in front to play the trick. Keeping acts in focus could have made it more impactful.

The other key aspects in the film lie between the power of media and also the helplessness of cops they face in nabbing the culprit due to insufficient evidences.

Final verdict: The film is a must watch for all those who love to see intense acts with substance. While for those who have seen the other four southern parts of it can watch it only for Ajay Devgn and Tabu.
