Derived from the ancient name ‘Vihara’, Bihar is the land of monasteries and education.

A land where major empires rose and fell, Bihar, all sorts of religion- Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Muslim and Sikh found way to the beautiful land.

As the ruins of the worlds' earliest university slumbers in the void of time, Bihar has grown leaps and bounds.

The presence of River Ganga enrich the green plains before leaving the state for Bengal's deltoid zone.

The state is intimately linked to the Buddha’s life thus has certain temples and noteworthy museums containing a collection of Hindu and Buddhist sculptures as well as a terracotta urn said to contain the ashes of Lord Buddha.

Then, the state is also known for the great king Ashoka who ruled the country with his presence of mind and specially acquired skills.

This landlocked state which is surrounded by Nepal, Bengal, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh comprises four cultural regions-Bhojpur, Mithila and Magadha and Chotanagpur.

Rivers Kosi and Gandak from the north and Sone from the south join the Ganga. In the fertile plains, rice, sugarcane, oilseeds, gram, maize, jute, barley and wheat are cultivated.

The culture of the northeastern state includes aspects such as literature, cuisine, performing and visual arts, and festivals.

Usually the people in the state speaks Bhojpuri and Magadhi but the official languages of the state are Hindi, Maithili and Urdu.

The state is also known for the popular writers it has given to the country such as Raja Radhika Raman Singh, Shiva Pujan Sahay, Divakar Prasad Vidyarthy, Ramdhari Singh 'Dinkar', Ram Briksh Benipuri, Phanishwar Nath 'Renu', Gopal Singh "Nepali" and Baba Nagarjun. 

The state is widely known for number of scholars, writers and poets of Urdu, including Shaad Azimabadi, Jamil Mazhari, Bismil Azimabadi (Poet of famous Patriotic ghazal 'Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamare dil mein hai'), Maulana Shabnam Kamali (Great Scholar, teacher, writer & poet), Kaif Azimabadi etc.

Then the state has also touched the musical lines with its contribution to the field with its noted musicians such as musicians such as Ustad Bismillah Khan anddhrupad singers like the Malliks (Darbhanga Gharana) and the Mishras (Bettiah Gharana).

Drama and theatre has also been part of the rich traditions of Bihar.

Then who doesn’t know about the Mithila paintings, practiced in the Mithila region of Bihar which are said to be originated at the time of Ramayana.

Sculpture artifacts in Bihar dates back to the Mauryan empire then pillars of Ashoka and Didarganj Yakshi are estimated to be at least 2000 years old.

With such rich culture and tradition no doubt Bihar
