New Delhi :

A new study conducted by the centers for disease control and prevention has shown that one in ten pregnant women have consumed alcohol in the past month.

However obstetricians strictly advise the pregnant women or those who are on the verge of considering pregnancy to completely abstain alcohol drinking.

"Only ethical advice that can be given is complete abstinence", says Mary Mather and Kate Wiles, an obstetric research fellow.

Researchers have come up with the fact that pregnant women put their unborn ones at higher risk of many health related problems like fetal alcohol syndrome, mental retardation, development and behavioral abnormalities by drinking alcohol.

The existing medical knowledge only informs women about the consequences that can arise if they continue drinking alcohol during pregnancy but it should also inform us that even controlled quantitiy of alcohol can influence baby’s health in the womb itself.

To avoid any harms to the unborn ones,  women should stay miles away from consuming alcohol.

Since there exists no threshold limit to the the consumption of alcohol thus it becomes extremely important to stay aware of how much the woman has drunk. It is advised though to remain in complete abstinence of alcohol for the better health of your unborn baby.
