New Delhi:

On the last day of campaigning for the Karnataka Assembly elections 2018, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday went full throttle and launched a blistering attack against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Accusing Modi of remaining silent on key issues, Gandhi said that when Dalits were being killed and humiliated across India, the prime minister didn’t utter a word or condemn the incidents.

“Confident of Congress’ victory” in the Karnataka Assembly election, the Congress president said that the Opposition (BJP) didn’t have any plan for the development of the state.

He also accused the BJP of copying the election manifesto of the Congress.

“The Congress drew from the essence of the aspirations of the people of Karnataka to create its manifesto. The BJP's manifesto, however, was crafted behind closed doors and half of it was copied from the Congress manifesto,” Rahul said while addressing a press conference in Bengaluru.

My mother more Indian than many

Reacting to Modi attacking Sonia Gandhi over her Italian origin, Rahul said that his mother sacrificed for the nation and was more Indian than many other people.

“My mother is Italian, My mother has lived larger part of her life in India, My mother is more Indian than many Indian people I have met. My mother sacrificed for this country. If the PM likes to abuse her, he may do so if it pleases him,” Rahul said.

BJP doesn't understand the term 'Hindu’

The Congress president said that the BJP questioning his temple visits and calling him an “Election Hindu” defined their own perspective of the religion.

“The BJP doesn't understand the term 'Hindu.' When BJP uses the term 'Election Hindu' it defines their own perspective of the religion,” the Gandhi scion said.

He said that people who support his party come from different religious backgrounds and being a leader of the party, it was his job to visit all the religious places.

“Our people have different religious beliefs. As a leader of the political party, it is my job to visit the religious institution that invites me. I will however not go to a single institution that divides the society,” he said.

BJP in Panic

Rahul said that the BJP’s move to bring the Union ministers to campaign in Karnataka showed the ‘panic’ of the saffron party.

“I can tell you why BJP Union Ministers are campaigning in Karnataka - P A N I C. I'm happy they're here, it helps us!” he said.

The leader of the country’s oldest party said that traveling across the southern state helped him learn the perspective of the people of Karnataka.

“It's been an honour for me to travel across the state and to learn from the spirit and the perspective of the people of Karnataka,” he said.
