Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday announced that assistant and associate professors of 329 state universities and 12912 colleges will get benefit of 7th Pay Commission from 1.1.16.

"7.51 lakh teachers in universities to get benefits of 7th Pay Commission. We must attract talent into academics," said Javadekar.

Javadekar added that teachers of all centrally funded deemed universities and 43 central universities to get benefit of 7th Pay Commission. 

Cabinet has approved revision of pay scales for about 8 lakh teachers and other equivalent academic staff.

Earlier in June, in a bonanza to 48 lakh central government employees, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved recommendations of 7th Central Pay Commission with 34 modifications which will impose an additional annual burden of Rs 30,748 crores on the exchequer.

The increased allowances, which comes into effect from July 1, 2017, is based on the recommendations of the Committee on Allowances (CoA). The allowances as recommended by the 7th Central Pay Commission would have cost the exchequer Rs 29,300 crore.
