New Delhi:

Adding its fifth destination in the US, state-owned Air India on Friday launched its first flight to Washington DC from New Delhi.

238-seater Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft has been deployed by the airline to cater to the direct service to the US. Eight seats in first class, 35 in business and 195 in economy class have been offered by the plane.

The launch took place at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here in the presence of Charge de Affairs of US Embassy Marykay Loss Carlson, Air India Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani, Commercial Director of Air India Pankaj Shrivastava, among other airline officials.

According to the airline spokesperson, the occupancy on flights to Washington is 90 per cent for the month of July.

Besides Washington DC, Air India’s other four direct flights to US airports - New York, San Francisco, Newark and Chicago.
