GST Council: E-way bill system will be implemented across country, not be mandatory on exempted goods

New Delhi:

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday announced that GST Council has given nod for nationwide implementation of e-way bill system, even as it will not be mandatory for exempted goods. 

There will be no check posts, process will be preferably technology-driven. 

Some important decisions taken in GST Council meet: 

#Council agreed to reduce job work on textiles, embroidery to five per cent
#GST rate on few tractor components  has been reduced to 18 per cent.
#E- Way Bills will be required for  packages worth over ₹50,000. Appeal to businesses to pass on  input credit benefits to consumers
#Work contracts under GST to be taxed at 12 pc with input tax credit
#To set up state, centre screening panel on Anti-profiteering within 15 days
#Unified e-way bill likely from Oct 1
#To seek parliamentary approval to raise  cess on luxury cars by 10%

The next meeting of the GST Council will be held in Hyderabad on September 9.
