Burari Deaths: Post mortem report confirms six of 11 family members died due to hanging

New Delhi:

At least six of the 11 family members who were found hanging inside their house in Delhi’s Burari on Sunday had died due to hanging, according to a post-mortem report.

Earlier on Sunday, eleven members of the Bhatia family were found dead under mysterious circumstances inside their home. While 10 of the members were found hanging from an iron grill of a ceiling, an elderly woman was lying dead in a room.

The police suspect an occult angle in their mysterious deaths after they recovered some handwritten notes from their house. The content written in the notes had strong similarities with the condition their bodies were found in.

Delhi police crime branch is investigating if it was a case of suicide pact or murder-suicide. However, the family members and relatives of the family have denied police's occult angle. They said that the family was religious but they were all well educated and would never commit suicide.

"They believed in God but who believes in such things (referring to handwritten notes talking about salvation). They were educated people and not superstitious. The family did not have enmity with anyone. But we suspect someone killed them," one of the relatives said.

The relatives alleged foul play into the deaths and demanded the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
