The preparations for the Under-17 FIFA World Cup, which is going to be held in India, have been almost completed, Minister of State for Sports (Independent charge) Vijay Goel said. In order to promote the World Cup in India, the minister along with Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh on Friday launched a 25-foot football at the Central park in Delhi's Connaught Place.
“The Under-17 FIFA World Cup will take place from October 6 to October 28. The matches will be played in six cities including Navi Mumbai, Delhi, Goa, Kolkata, Kochi and Guwahati. I myself have visited each ground and inspected the preparations of the Under-17 FIFA World Cup,” Goel said.
“The preparations in all the stadiums are almost completed. India will warmly welcome all the footballers coming from various countries. Football is the second most popular sport in the country and we want it to be included in the sports syllabus,” he further added.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his ‘Mann ki Baat’ edition said that football should reach every village in the country.
