Kolkata Police’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested one of the top leaders of a Manipur-based outfit group, for allegedly involved in dacoity case in the city, said a senior police officer.

The 28-year old Amon Nelson Singh alias Chingkhei Khuman, also known as Maheikhomba Meitei, who heads the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Military Council Progressive) was arrested on Sunday, said the official.

KCP-Progressive is one of the banned-insurgency organisations in India, police said.

“He is a self-proclaimed chairman of Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Council Progressive) and has been arrested under the Arms Act,” the officer said.

Amon was wanted in connection with a dacoity incident in the city’s Jodhpur Park in 2017, the officer said.

According to STF reports, Amon had also confessed to numerous cases of extortion in Manipur.

One 9 mm pistol, three ammunitions and two 7 mm pistols were also seized from his possession, the IPS officer said.

According to police reports, some members of the same organisation were arrested in 2017 in connection with dacoity in a jewellery shop in the city.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police Special Cell on September 8 (Saturday) arrested a 37-year old member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-PWG) in the national capital, for allegedly threatening and extorting businessmen and influential people in Manipur, police said.

Security forces has left no stone unturned and puts its utmost efforts in safeguarding the country’s law and security round the clock.
