Shabana Azmi has carved a niche in both commercial and art cinema through her diverse roles. The versatile actress turns 67 on Monday and has mesmerized audiences via her effortless portrayals of different characters.
Azmi is an alumni of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and has won the National Award for ‘Best Actress’ five times.
She made her debut in 1974 in Shyam Benegal’s award winning film Ankur and quickly established herself as one of the leading actresses of Parallel cinema.
Some other films which made her a household name and help her earned laurels include Mandi, Nishant and Junoon among others. She also earned fame in commercial movies and some of her successful films are Amar Akbar Anthony, Parvarish, Jwalamukhi, etc.Azmi is renowned for her excellent dialogue delivery and excellence in theatre.
She has definitely taken Indian cinema to different heights and we wish that she keeps on continuing with her iconic roles.
