Nepotism controversy: Anushka Sharma, Imtiaz Ali make their stand clear, says 'everyone faces different experiences'

New Delhi:

Anushka Sharma along with director Imtiaz Ali have shared their opinions on the ongoing nepotism debate and stated that while they haven't faced nepotism in the industry, everyone has their share of experience in Bollywood.

Anushka, during the trailer launch of her upcoming movie 'Jab Harry Met Sejal', said that she made it to Bollywood because of sheer talent and it is because of the people in the industry that she has managed to come this far.

"I was launched by a banner like Yash Raj Films (YRF) which has always, either with me or Ranveer Singh, put talent before anything else. I had not thought about it (nepotism) when I entered the film industry," Anushka was quoted as saying.

"But at the same time everyone faces different experiences, we have to respect and value them. In the same industry different people can be treated differently and that has to be respected and valued," she added.

Notably, Anushka's statement came in wake of the much talked about nepotism controversy which was instigated during IIFA 2017. Karan Johar, Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan are in news for their IIFA joke on nepotism and Kangana Ranaut, who had first sparked the debate by calling the filmmaker 'the flag- bearer of nepotism' on his show earlier this year.

On the other hand, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali too voiced similar opinion and said if there was nepotism in the B-town, he along with the lead pair of his movie - Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma - wouldn't have been successful enough in the industry.

"The fact that the three of us, who are outsiders, are here today... If we had faced nepotism then we wouldn't have reached this far in our respective careers. I can confidently say about myself that if I am here it is because of the love and affection of the film industry at that time. I don't see it (nepotism)," Imtiaz said.

Currently, Imtiaz and Anushka are busy promoting their movie 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' which also stars Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. The movie is slated to release on August 4 this year.
