Year 2017 has been full of ups and downs for Indian cinema, where on one hand films like ‘Baahubali’ busted every record ever made and on the other hand there were films like Tubelight, Jagga Jasoos and recently released Jab Harry Met Sejal which failed miserably.
Imtiaz Ali directorial venture ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ starring Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma which failed to live up to the expectations at the box-office, now the word had it that the distributors are expecting a refund from Shahrukh for their loss.
Reportedly, Salman Khan’s much awaited Eid release ‘Tubelight’ also didn’t perform well at the box-office, but he returned a fraction of his earnings to the distributors.
Films like Lipstick Under My Burkha, Hindi Medium and Akshay-Bhumi starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha churned great at the box-office this year. This trend clearly shows the Indian audience have started appreciating good substance in the movie rather than same old cliched recipe over and over again.
If Shahrukh shows generosity and refunds a substantial amount to its investors and distributors, then it won’t be the first time, as he done it before when his films ‘Asoka’ and ‘Dilwale’ didn’t do well at the box-office.
