Seems he has written song for every generation. A poet, lyricist and script writer, Javed Akhtar is a recipient of Padma Sri (1999), Padma Bhushan (2007), the Sahitya Akademi Award as well as thirteen Filmfare Awards.

It's Javed Akhtar's birthday. He was born on January 17, 1945. We love the lyrics of songs written by him. Movies like Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Namastey London, Rock On, Karthik calling Karthik had songs written by Javed Akhtar and those songs are liked even now.

The lyrics written by him are just magical just like his old name that was Jadoo. Yes Javed Akhtar’s original name was Jadoo which was changed to Javed as it was the closest to the previous one. Javed Akhtar was born a Muslim but he led his life as an atheist. His first song was Dekha Ek Khwaab from movie Silsila. And he wrote his first screenplay for Rajesh Khanna’s Haathi Mere Saathi, along with Salim Khan.

Most of the time, he has worked with Salim Khan. He has also written lyrics for latest songs like Zaalima from Rahul Dholakia’s Raees and Jaago, Rock On 2. Well let’s have a look at some of his songs that will always stay in our memories and be favourites of every generation.

In 2013, he received the Sahitya Akademy Award in Urdu, India's second highest literary honour, for his poetry collection Lava. Betaab, for which he had written screenplay, got nominated for Filmfare awards in best story category.
