In a relief to the makers and cast of Kedarnath, just ahead of its release on Friday, a PIL filed against the film has been dismissed by the Bombay High Court. On Wednesday, the Gujarat High Court had also dismissed a PIL against the film. The PILs suggested that Kedarnath hurts the religious sentiments of the Hindus and inspires ‘love jihad’ as per media reports. The petitioner pleaded with the court to stop the release and sought a ban on the film. Dismissing the PIL, the court also called it a publicity stunt by the petitioner.
Kedarnath has Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan in lead roles and is set in the backdrop of the 2013 Uttarakhand floods. Kedarnath has been directed by Abhishek Kapoor and tells the story of a wealthy Hindu girl who falls in love with a pitthu belonging to the Muslim community. As they grow closer along the journey, they face many obstacles, including familial disapproval and contrasting backgrounds. When the sudden rains of the 2013 Uttarakhand floods devastate the region, the couple is forced to survive against the elements of nature and face the ultimate test of their love.

“The storyline is cooked-up, imaginary, and the movie is an untrustworthy story of love between a Hindu Brahmin girl and a Muslim boy connected with the natural disaster of Uttarakhand,” the plea filed in the Gujarat court read. “The filmmakers have, by making such type of movie and releasing the trailer, made attempts to outrage and play with our religious sentiments using the name and abode of lord Shiva,” according to a report in Times Now.
