Sonika Chauhan death: Vikram Chatterjee ARRESTED in Kolkata

Model-turned-VJ Sonika Chauhan's death case created an altogether fresh turn after the main accused actor Vikram Chatterjee got arrested in Kolkata this morning. Reportedly, Chatterjee, who was missing for a while now, was detained from his Kasba residence. He will be presented before the court on Friday.

“He was missing for some time and on Wednesday we got the information that he was travelling in a radio taxi. We immediately alerted our officers and managed to arrest him. On Friday he will be produced in Alipore Court,” a senior police officer told News18.

According to the media reports, Vikram has been charged with culpable homicide which is a non-bailable section (304) of the IPC for which he might get an imprisonement of up to 10 years.

“The report, which was received by police last week, revealed that about 4.6 seconds before the crash, the car was moving at 105 km/hr. About 2.1 seconds before the crash, the speed was reduced to 93 km/hr, and till 1.6 seconds before the crash, no break was applied. This proves the driver was not in control,” a police officer was quoted saying to Indian Express.

The report also suggested that the high speed of the car might be considered as an deliberate act as a result of which Vikram has been booked under Section 304 of IPC.

“The reports have proved that car was at a high speed. This can be considered a deliberate act; hence we moved court and court accepted our prayer. We have booked Vikram under Section 304 of IPC,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vishal Garg was quoted as saying.

Sonika died in a a tragic car accident took place near Lake Mall on Rashbehari Avenue in South Kolkata in April this year. Reportedly, Vikram too had accompanied Sonika and was behind the wheels at the time of the accident

It was reported that Chatterjee was in an inebriated state and was accused of over-speeding. Apparently, Vikram had lost the balance of the car and rammed it into a shop on the pavement. While Vikram suffered serious injuries, Sonika died on the spot.
