Indian filmmaker Sridhar Rangayan’s 'Evening Shadows' wins award at Amsterdam fest

Award-winning filmmaker Sridhar Rangayan’s Evening Shadows has won the ‘Free To Be Me’ award at the ‘Roze Filmdagen’, a popular LGBTQ film festival in Amsterdam. The heartwarming film showcased the challenges faced by gay men in India when they come out in the open.

Evening Shadows portrayed the story of a mother and son and how their bond is put to the test when the latter reveals that he is homosexual. The film which received a U/A certificate from CBFC was screened across many leading film festivals.

Set against the backdrop of Southern India, the film aimed to unravel the issues like dominant patriarchal social mores which exist in our society.

Featuring Mona Ambegaonkar, Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, Devansh Doshi and Arpit Chaudhary in key roles, the film is an eye-opener for the Indian society.

The makers of the film have been awarded with a cash prize of 1,000 euros by Hivos, a Dutch organisation which aims to support innovative development programmes.  

Rangayan, who is known for his films like The Pink Mirror and Yours Emotionally was elated on receiving the award at the prestigious film festival.
