The movie has been talk of the town not just because of its unusual concept, but also for several controversies, which included the leak controversy, stalking debate and even the CBFC issue.
But despite being mired with controversies, the team has left no stone unturned to promote 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha'. During a recent promotional event of the movie, the star cast - Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar and Anupam Kher got candid about their much awaited movie of the year.
Here are some excerpts from the press conference by the team of 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha':
Ques. Akshay, you always prefer doing extensive research for each movie you do, so what was the trigger point that made you say 'yes' for 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha'?
I didn't do any research for the movie because I work with such directors who does the entire research work by himself. So it was the writer and director who did the research and came up with the script. When I read the script, I found it really different as we never saw a love story collaborated with toilet. So this is a true love story, it is a real life story and loved working on it.
Ques. Bhumi, you have been touted as the official village girl of Bollywood. How does it feel?
I think the 70% of the masses are in villages and the kind of films that are being appreciated and are high on content are heartland stories and I am very lucky that I get these films. But as far as my real life is concerned I am a complete non-villager person.
Ques. Akshay, we all know 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' is based on PM Modi's 'Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan', so do you plan to make movies on any other of his initiatives?
I was narrated the script by the writer. I made the movie because I liked the script and not because someone told me to make a movie like this. However, it is an entirely different thing that while PM Modi ji has been promoting the clean India campaign and our movie too talks about the same issue. Moreover, clean India isn't the topic started by Modi ji, instead it is our topic as it is directly related to us and our health. Notably, this movie has lot to do with city people as it is our responsibility to keep our surroundings clean.
Ques. Are you holding any special screening for PM Modi for 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha'?
No special screening is being held for PM Modi. Although I would love to show it to him but I am sure he has lots of other work to do for the country rather than watching this movie.
On the cuts suggested by the CBFC, rubbished the news of having eight cuts in the movie and stated that the makers have been suggested three verbal cuts for 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha'.
Ques. Bhumi, how challenging it was to work with actors like Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher?
Shooting 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' with Anupam Sir and Akshay Sir has by far been one of the best experiences of my life. This is only my second film and it is a privilege for me to work with them. They set such a good example for somebody like me who is so new, they are so dedicated and such happy people. The biggest thing that I learnt from them is be happy.
Ques. Akshay, how do you mange to look ageless in front of upcoming actress like Bhumi, Ilena, etc?
I have only one job in my life and that is just to make films, apart from which I take care of my family and work hard. I don't take much stress in life and stay happy along with following a healthy lifestyle of proper diet and exercise. There is no science in it. If you live a simple life with the feeling of happiness, that is all you need in life.
