The channel Sony Entertainment finally decided to pull the curtains down on the daily soap on August 28. The decision came as a bolt from the blue and shocked the actors. Nobody in the cast and crew was about the decision.
Suyyash Rai who played the role of Abhay in the controversial show was taken aback by the news. The ex- Bigg Boss contestant had even defended the show when people slammed it on twitter.
The actor was quoted as saying to Pinkvilla that it is a very sad thing for the show's producer, cast and crew, in particular, the spot dada, technician team, makeup and hair people.
The handsome actor who is married to Kishwer Merchant told the website that it is a sad thing when something like this takes place overnight.
He added that the actors of the show will be affected because of this sudden decision.
Pehredaar Piya Ki has been controversy's favourite child and has received a lot of flak on social media because of its regressive plot. The show had a storyline where a 18-year-old girl marries a 9-year-old boy and becomes his protector.
Many viewers filed petitions demanding the show to be banned from television screens.
The Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC) had asked the channel to change the time slot of the show and also instructed them to run a disclaimer stating the daily soap does not promote child marriage.
The channel released a statement on Tuesday stating that it is pulling the plug on 'Pehredaar Piya Ki' from August 28.
