New Delhi:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday deferred its organisational elections till 2019 Lok Sabha elections and decided to extend Amit Shah’s tenure as the party’s president. According to the reports, the saffron party wanted to fight the 2019 polls under Shah’s leadership.

Amit Shah’s term as the BJP president was earlier scheduled to end in January 2019. The decision to extend Shah’s tenure was taken during BJP’s national executive meeting held in Delhi. The two-day meeting was attended by the top leaders of the saffron party from across the country, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, veteran leader LK Advani, Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj among others.

In the meeting, the BJP had planned a strategy to gain the lost momentum and deal with the united Opposition’s attack on the government over a bunch of issues such as farmers plight, skyrocketing fuel prices and historic fall of rupee against dollar.

Inaugurating the two-day meeting in New Delhi, Shah gave the slogan of “Ajay BJP” (invincible BJP) and claimed that the party will return to power in 2019 with a bigger victory than 2014. He also asked party workers to work towards the party’s victory in the upcoming Assembly elections.

The meeting, which came in the backdrop of the recent chaos over the SC/ST Atrocities Act, is being held at the Ambedkar International Centre, in a bid to reach out to the Scheduled Castes and Tribes.

"There has been an attempt to create confusion regarding SC/ST issue, but that won't cause any impact on 2019 elections", Shah expressed hopes.

PM Modi will also address the meeting on Sunday.
