New Delhi :

The Indian Army on Wednesday rescued 1925 people from the flood areas in Gujarat, while 25 bodies including 17 members of a family were fished out from the receding waters of Banas river in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district, raising the death toll to 119.

Army and NDRF personnel had launched a massive search operation after villagers in the district complaint of more than 100 people missing.

The NDRF officials not authorised to talk to the media said the toll could rise as more bodies of people swept away in the last three days are likely to surface as water recedes.

In the flood affected state three NDRF teams, one BSF team, two army columns and 10 choppers have been engaged to rescue people in Banaskantha district alone.

On Tuesday Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken stock of the situation through aerial surveillance and had announced an interim relief support of Rs 500 crore.
