BJP says Ram Temple issue not on agenda, denies Amit Shah's remarks

New Delhi:

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday made it clear that the issue of Ram Temple will not be on its agenda for 2019 and denied the reports of Amit Shah’s assurance that the construction work will start before upcoming Lok Sabha elections, according to ANI.

“No such matter was even on the agenda,” ANI quoted the BJP as saying.

Earlier Friday, reports said that Amit Shah, during his visit to Hyderabad, had given assurance of starting the construction work of Ram Temple in Ayodhya before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier in June, in a major ideological shift, the BJP had said that neither Ram temple nor Hindutva would be on the agenda of the saffron party for 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Ram temple and Hindutva has been on top of the BJP’s electoral issues in every election since 1990, when then BJP president LK Advani had conducted a political-religious march: ‘Ram Rath Yatra’.

Although the BJP used the development and rode on anti-incumbency wave against the Congress in 2014, the party didn't forget to include the issue of Ram Temple in its election manifesto.
