New Delhi:

The Blue Whale Challenge has taken the internet with a storm. The online game is literally giving the parents of the children playing it sleepless nights. It is becoming a craze amongst the teenagers and this is a serious matter.

Blue Whale game consists of series of tasks which the player has to play during a 50-day period. The shocking thing is that the last task of the game requires the person to commit suicide.

The Government of India has finally decided to ban the deadly game as a result of the increase in the number of suicides by children. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued an order to ban the online game.

The Ministry which is headed by Ravi Shankar Prasad has directed the internet platforms like Google, WhatsApp, Facebook, Yahoo India, Microsoft India and Instagram to remove the links of the Blue Whale game and all other such games.

As a matter of fact, the administrator of the dangerous online game uses the social media platforms like Facebook to trigger the children to take on the challenge. It is not a game which can be downloaded or is available on a website; therefore the role of the internet platforms becomes greater.

Cyber experts have welcomed the decision taken by Government of India. Mumbai-based cyber specialist Prashant Mali has said that this is a very good move on part of the government. According to him, though the decision came up late but still is a much needed one. He stressed on the importance of having a gaming regulator in India.

The self-destructive challenge has taken the lives of two children. Last month, a class ninth student in Mumbai jumped off the terrace of a building. He committed suicide because of the very same game.

A class tenth student in Bengal also took his life owing to this game. The boy named Ankan Dey was playing the game as per his friends. He was found dead in the bathroom with his head covered with a plastic bag tied around his neck with a nylon chord.

Several cases have been reported where teenagers have attempted to end their life while following the instructions of the infamous game.

A 13-year-old boy from Indore’s Chameli Devi School had tried to jump off from the third floor of his school building. Fortunately he was saved by his teachers and friends.
