New Delhi :

A Level-2 fire broke out in a cloth factory at Damu Nagar near MIDC bus stop in Mumbai's Kandivali (East). At least four fire tenders are present at the spot. The reason behind the fire is yet to be known.

The latest fire incident came only a few days after a massive fire at ESIC Kamgar Hospital at Marol in suburban Andheri claimed nine lives. Two days later another blaze broke out at the same facility on Wednesday evening. Following Monday’s blaze, the entire hospital had been vacated. Monday’s incident had left 175 others injured, including some children, who are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the city.

On Wednesday night, another fire broke out at a high-end fashion store on the ground floor of Hotel Trident in Mumbai’s Marine Drive. The fire was reported around 11.02 pm and has been doused fire. No injuries have been reported.

“The reply to an RTI query has revealed that there were over 48,000 fires in the city over the last 10 years, in which around 700 people lost their lives. Yet, around 70 per cent buildings in the city do not comply with minimum fore safety standards," said  Nicholas Almieda, an activist who has been raising his voice over rising fire incidents in Mumbai.
