Chandigarh:

Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Thursday called upon like-minded parties to stop the Narendra Modi wave and said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may call for an early Lok Sabha elections.

“With yesterday’s result, there is a great possibility that BJP will hold early Lok Sabha polls,” said Mayawati while addressing a BSP rally in Chandigarh.

With the Chandigarh rally, Mayawati launched her campaign for the Lok Sabha election to be held in 2019. She called upon like-minded parties to battle the Modi wave, stating, “The BJP now knows, the delay in election dates will shatter their hopes to return to power.”

The BSP chief claimed that backing Samajwadi Party (SP) in the bypolls in Gorakhpur and Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh to teach the BJP a lesson paid rich dividends.

“We wanted to teach the BJP a lesson and in the last minute decided to support SP candidates. With the loss, the BJP leaders have lost their sleep,” Mayawati said.

The last moment coalition of BSP-SP stopped BJP’s trail of victory.

The BJP had, in 2014 elections, won the two high profile Lok Sabha seats by a margin of over three lakhs votes.

The BSP president also accused the Narendra Modi government of being a form of dictatorship and weakening the democracy and making media ineffective.

“Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre is a form of dictatorship and he has surpassed the Emergency imposed by the Congress government in 1975,” said Mayawati while addressing the rally in Chandigarh.

The BSP chief also said that EVMs were being tampered and called for usage of ballot papers in the forthcoming elections.

Attacking the BJP further, Mayawati accused the BJP-led government of giving away the money it recovered from the corrupt to ‘capitalist.’

“The money collected through demonetisation could have been used in controlling inflation and for the benefit of the poor,” she said.

Mayawati further alleged that people belonging to Dalit and weaker sections of the society who were promoted to higher positions by the BJP were working as RSS’s ‘bonded labours’.

The BSP then alleged the BJP is using government investigative agencies to target its political rivals to remain in power.

“In the name of curbing corruption, the BJP is targeting political opponents. However, they are not setting any inquires on leaders having affiliation to the saffron party,” Mayawati said.

During the Chandigarh rally, she also did not spare the Congress and launched a scathing attack on other national parties. “BJP and Congress is vocal on dalit issues but the reality is something else,” she said.

“Congress’s casteist menatility stopped them for not implementing Mandal Commission report and bestowing BR Ambedkar with Bharat Ratna,” she added.
