Amritsar:
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday raised the issue of Khalistan and its funding from Canada during his 30-minute long meeting with the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Taj Hotel in Amritsar.
Singh after the meeting talking to reporters said, “I raised the issue of Khalistan, as money is being funded by many countries including Canada.”
The Punjab chief minister further added that he discussed about Khalistan militancy. “He has assured that he will look into the matters of concern raised,” said Singh.
Singh also tweeted, “Really happy to receive categorical assurance from Canadian PM @JustinTrudeau that his country does not support any separatist movement. His words are a big relief to all of us here in India and we look forward to his government’s support in tackling fringe separatist elements.”
According to reports, Singh also interacted with other Canadian cabinet members including three Sikh ministers, who are accompanying Trudeau.
Earlier in the day, Trudeau and delegation of Canadian lawmakers were received at the Amritsar International Airport by Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs and Navjot Singh Sidhu, Punjab Cultural Affairs and Tourism Minister.

Trudeau along with his family also paid his obeisance at the Golden Temple — the holiest Sikh Shrine. In the shrine the Canadian prime minister was welcomed by Shiromani Akali Dal Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, his wife and union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Gobind Singh Longowal.
The Canadian prime minister along with his family — wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and three children - Ella, Xavier and Hadrien — are on a week-long visit to India.
