New Delhi:
The Election Commission sought a report from Varanasi DM whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi was granted permission to hold a road-show in Varanasi on Saturday.
The Prime Minister's road-show was scheduled on a day when 49 constituencies went to the polls in the sixth phase of the state assembly election.
Parties including the ruling Samajwadi Party and the Congress raised objections over the event.
Congress leader KC Mittal approached the EC that the PM conducted the roadshow for about 7km without necessary permission from competent authorities.
The road-show started from the Banaras Hindu University after Modi paid tributes to the statue of noted Hindutva ideologue Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya there. People turned out in large numbers as the prime minister's cavalcade moved at a snail's pace.
