New Delhi:

The recent string of bank frauds and allegations of data theft has thrown the Congress party and the Bharatiya Janata Party into a slugfest. While the Congress on Monday called the BJP-led government a 'data leak government', the BJP labelled Congress president Rahul Gandhi as 'technologically illiterate'.

“The Congress president’s allegations are a classic case of technological illiteracy,” said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra, reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s charges against the Narendra Modi-led NDA government of stealing user’s data shared on Narendra Modi app — NaMo.

“Rahul Gandhi does not know that data analysis is not equivalent to spying. This era is the age of information which Rahulji will not understand,” the BJP spokesperson added.

Patra also added that NaMo app is no different from any other smart app. “Like other apps, NaMo app too, requires the users to grant access to their personal data to help enhance the functioning of the the app,” Patra adds.

The BJP spokesperson further attacking the Congress president said that Rahul Gandhi may soon tweet that NaMo app was connected to EVM machines and EVM tampering.

Earlier, the Congress had questioned the safety of the people's money and their personal information under the BJP-led government and accused the Modi government of stealing user’s data shared on Narendra Modi app — NaMo.

“Modi’s NaMo App secretly records audio, video, contacts of your friends & family and even tracks your location via GPS. He’s the Big Boss who likes to spy on Indians. Now he wants data on our children. 13 lakh NCC cadets are being forced to download the (Narendra Modi) APP,” Congress president Rahul Gandhi tweeted in the morning.

Joining in the attack, senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi told reporters, "It is an attempt like Bigg Boss of spying on Indians. Modiji is attacking the privacy. It is a data leak government".

"On one hand there is data leak in banks with crores being siphoned from the country by people like Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallaya, and on the other there is leak of data happening in the country.

"How safe is your data in banks? Today there is a loot in banks. People have run away with money. How safe is your money in the banks," he questioned. He then cited the alleged "data leak of 10,000 ATMs of PNB and details of 32 lakh SBI credit and debit card holders being compromised".

Earlier on Sunday, Rahul Gandhi took a jibe at Modi and tweeted: “Hi! My name is Narendra Modi. I am India's Prime Minister. When you sign up for my official App, I give all your data to my friends in American companies”.

Hitting back at the Congress leader, BJP's national Information & Technology in-charge Amit Malviya accused Rahul of leaking data of Congress’s official app users to Singapore companies and tweeted in a similar fashion: “Hi! My name is Rahul Gandhi. I am the President of India’s oldest political party. When you sign up for our official App, I give all your data to my friends in Singapore.”
