New Delhi:

The incidents related to cow vigilantism has increased significantly in the year 2017. As per a report, 78 incidents of cow vigilantism have been reported since 2010 and 35 incidents have happened in the 2017.

The year 2017 accounts for major 45 per cent of the total cow vigilantism incidents. The incidents have risen significantly from the year 2015.

There was no incidents of cow vigilantism reported in the year 2010 and 2011. One each was reported in 2012 and 2013. There were incidents related to cow vigilantism in 2014.

There was noticeable jump in 2015 with reporting of 13 cases. The year 2016 saw 25 cases of cow vigilantism. And, it touched new heights with 35 cases in 2017 which is yet to be concluded.

The report also states that 87 per cent of the victims who died in such incidents are Muslims.

Out of the 78 cases which has been reported, police have booked victims in 36 cases which means that 46 per cent of victims had to face charges.
