New Delhi:

Hundreds of farmers and activists on Friday marched on the national capital roads in protest against the Narendra Modi government, alleging that it made "false claims" on minimum support price for crops.

A protest march was taken out by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee(AIKSCC) from Mandi House that converged into a meeting at Parliament Street.

The AIKSCC leaders expressed farmers' support to the no-confidence motion brought in the Lok Sabha by the opposition parties against the Modi government.

"The central government, which promised the farmers 50 per cent profit on the comprehensive cost (as mentioned in the Swaminathan Commission report) has 'betrayed' them by adopting the same formula by which the Manmohan Singh government fixed the MSP for crops," the AIKSCC said in a statement.

A number of farming sector activists and politicians including Sharad Yadav, Rajendra Yadav, Ashish Mittal, Raju Shetti addressed the gathering.

A round-table meeting was held in Delhi in March this year in which 22 political parties signed a resolution to support two Bills to be presented in the Parliament on behalf of the AIKSCC.

These Bills are for freedom from debt and guaranteed remunerative minimum support prices. The Bills were likely to be tabled in the Lok Sabha in the current session although the move was hampered by the no-confidence motion against the government, it said.
