Balwantsinh Rajput is BJP’s third contestant for the Rajya Sabha polls in Gujarat.
Rajput — chief whip of the Congress — along with two other Congressmen had resigned from their posts and joined the BJP last month.
The 54-year-old politician was born at Gujarat’s Patan in August 17, 1962, to Chandan Singh Rajput and Hansaba. He has five children.
Rajput, is said to be Shankersinh Vaghela loyalist. Vaghela had recently exited Congress but did not join BJP.
According to an affidavit filed by Rajput in the last Gujarat assembly elections, court has taken cognizance against the charges related to false evidence (IPC Section-193), Using evidence known to be false (IPC Section-196), issuing or signing false certificate (IPC Section-197), forgery of valuable security, will, etc. (IPC Section-467), criminal breach of trust (IPC Section-406), Criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant (IPC Section-408), criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent (IPC Section-409) and punishment of criminal conspiracy (IPC Section-120B) against him.
Rajput has total moveable asset of Rs 246 crores and liability of Rs 52 crore according to the affidavit filed by the politician during Gujarat state elections.
