The chairmen of Jammu and Kashmir human rights commission on Monday asked the state govt to pay compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to Farooq Ahmed Dar who was used as a “human shield” by an Army officer against stone-pelters.
The human rights commission have given six months deadline to pay the compensation price to Farooq.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah posted the video on his Twitter handle in which Farooq Ahmed Dar was tied to an army vehicle purportedly as a shield against stone-pelters during polling in the Srinagar Lok Sabha by-election. This had triggered a public outcry prompting civil and army authorities to launch a separate investigation.
After the video gone viral and triggered a major row, Army ordered a Court of Inquiry into the controversial “human shield” incident.
The video was reportedly filmed in Beerwah area of Budgam district where miscreants disrupted polling during Sunday’s bypoll to Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency by pelting stones. The video is being widely shared on social media in Kashmir and is drawing condemnation.
