Jodhpur:

In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly burnt alive in a village in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur on Sunday for allegedly protesting cutting of trees, reports have said.

An FIR has been filed in the case naming 10 persons, including a revenue official.

According to the police, the woman named Lalita after objecting to cutting of trees in her farm for the construction of a road near her village was allegedly attacked by a group of villagers. The mob poured petrol on the woman and set her on fire.

The woman died in a hospital on Monday. "The dispute was over a road, my sister was opposing it...they poured petrol on her and set her on fire," woman's brother, Vidyadhar, was quoted as saying.

The incident has sparked protests with the protesters demanding arrests within 24 hours.

Police officer Suresh Chaudhary told the news agency ANI: "The sarpanch and other people poured petrol on her and burnt her alive. The body is in the mortuary. We will arrest the accused soon, after a fair investigation."
