We all know that Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and now get ready to see it in bigger size than any other time in 2017. But why will Jupiter appear bigger and brighter? Well, because our planet Earth and Jupiter come closest to each other in their orbits every 13 months.
The two heavenly bodies will not come this close again until the next event that takes place on May 9, 2018.
How to watch it?
The distance between Earth and Jupiter during this event will not be really that close. Technically, the Jupiter will be around 414 million miles away from us. Hence, when the Jupiter will become bigger and brighter, you won’t be able to watch it with your naked eyes.
However, skygazers and space enthusiasts can enjoy the sighting with the help of binoculars. What is exciting about this sighting is the fact that you will be able to see the colour of Jupiter and may even be able to spot the famous Great Red Spot.
When to watch it?
The Jupiter will come closest to Earth through Friday evening and will remain near to it till Saturday morning. If you want to catch a glimpse of Jupiter in its full glory, the best time will be around the dusk, when the sun sets.
What in case you miss the event?
Missed the event! Fret not! The big, bright planet will appear right alongside the Full Moon a few days later. It will still appear bright and easy to spot.
