Justice Gogoi, who was one of the four judges who addressed the unprecedented press conference against CJI Misra, said that there were set norms for the elevation of judges in the judiciary but the real ‘problem’ lied in the change of Chief Justice of India.

“When it comes to the elevation of judges in the judiciary, we have some norms. The problem lies in the change of Chief Justice of India,” ANI quoted Justice Gogoi as saying.

Gogoi also called for a “consistent policy” in the Indian judiciary system and emphasised on the need for elimination of pending cases.

“The Indian judiciary should have a consistent policy,” he said adding that “our system is not prepared with the huge influx of the number of cases coming for disposal. There is a need for elimination of cases.”
