New Delhi:

Karnataka Assembly on Monday passed Kambala bill to allow conduct of the traditional buffalo and bullock cart racing sport in the state.

Retaining the provisions of the Act for humanely treatment of animals, the government has allowed people to continue holding the sport.

The bill has added a clause to the 1960 Act stating that nothing contained in it shall apply to Kambala, bulls race or bullock cart race and organising these sports shall not be an offence under it.

The clamour for Kambala was spurred by the success of the stir in Tamil Nadu for allowing Jallikattu (taming of bull), which led to the state government bringing a similar amendment to the Central act.
