Modi's ‘achhe din’ exist only on Twitter: Kanhaiya Kumar

Ahmedabad:

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, student leader Kanhaiya Kumar on Tuesday said Modi’s “Achhe Din” (his poll promise of good days) “exists only on Twitter.”

He was speaking at a seminar organised by the Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch to mark the first anniversary of Una Dalit flogging incident.

Kumar also attacked Modi’s “Vibrant Gujarat” event saying the “vibration” was only felt by “Adani and Ambani.”

“Modi’s achhe din exists only on Twitter. But we need a policy and not just Twitter,” he said.

Condemning the Amarnath terror attack, Kumar said Modi’s promise that demonetisation will end terror attacks was a sham and he should explain why surgical strike did not end such attacks.

The former president of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union said the fact that the driver who was behind the wheels of the bus carrying pilgrims attacked by the terrorists at Amarnath was a Muslim suggests that communal harmony exists everywhere.

“I condemn any form of violence, but the claim that demonetisation will stop terror strikes has been belied. What kind of surgical strike was conducted when it cannot stop terror attacks,” he said.

He also appealed to Muslims not to fear the present BJP government saying “even if Modi tries to be Hitler, Muslims here are not Jews.”

He said while the BJP talks about Bharat Mata, the government cannot even provide free sanitary napkins to school girls, and in fact, imposes GST on it.“You must respect each other’s opinion, that is what democracy is all about,” he said.

Kumar also suggested that BJP nominating Ram Nath Kovind as presidential candidate is a “conspiracy” against Dalits.

The seminar was organised to condemn attacks by cow vigilantes, with organisers saying that they want to create more awareness against caste-based violence, rising cases of lynching and terror unleashed by cow vigilantes.

They claimed that the agitation carried out by them in the wake of the incident has created awareness about the horrors of caste-based violence and attack on Dalits and Muslims in the name of protecting cows.

The speakers said BJP-ruled state government has not provided Dalits with the land it had promised and a march will be undertaken tomorrow from Mehsana to Palanpur to stake claim to those land.

Kanhaiya Kumar too will be participating in this march.
