New Delhi:

Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district while another surrendered with arms and ammunition, said Jammu and Kashmir DPG SP Vaid.

“Encounter at Chadderbhan Kulgam, two to three Terrorists trapped. Two terrorists killed so far. Third terrorist surrenders with arms and ammunition to Police and security forces,” Vaid said in a series of tweets.

The encounter broke out on Sunday afternoon after Indian Army along with J&K police and CRPF personnel started an operation to clear the national highway ahead of Amarnath Yatra, starting from June 28.

As the security forces were closing in, some terrorists opened fire on them. In retaliation, the security forces gunned down two of them while another surrendered before them.

The operation was still going on as more terrorists were reported to be trapped. So far, there were no reports of any collateral damage or causality to the security forces.

Two over-ground workers of Hizbul Mujahideen arrested in Anantnag

In a separate incident, police arrested two over-ground workers of militant organisation Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) from Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir.

A joint team of police and Army was deployed at a check post in at Tulkhan crossing on the new national highway in south Kashmir. During the checking, security forces noticed two suspected people roaming around in the area.

The police and Army personnel nabbed them both and recovered live hand grenade from their custody. Further investigation revealed that they were the over-ground workers of the banned terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen, a police official said.

They were allegedly assisting HM militant Hamad Khan and were claimed to be involved in May 23 grenade attack at Goriwan Chowk in the Bijbehara, the official added.
