Resigned Jammu and Kashmir Minister Chander Parkash Ganga on Saturday revealed that he went to attend the Kathua rally organised in support of the ‘rapists’ of an eight-year-old girl on BJP’s instructions.
“We were sent (to Kathua) by the party. Our party president Sat Sharma sent us. We went there on the party’s instruction,” Ganga said, as tweeted reported by Times Now and tweeted by the Congress.
“When we heard the people, they told us since investigation changed hands thrice they don’t trust and they demanded CBI probe. I felt that if my sacrifice is required to protect party’s image I would be glad to do it,” the minister added.
On January 10, the eight-year-old minor girl was kidnapped and raped repeatedly by a group of men allegedly to hound her nomadic Muslim tribe community out of the Rassana area of Kathua.
According to the agency investigating the case, she was kept at Devsthan or a place of worship at Rasana village. She was drugged and gang-raped before being brutally murdered.
On March 1, Ganga and his cabinet colleague Choudhary Lal Singh attended a rally in support of the Kathua rape accused. The ministers stepped down after the BJP faced severe criticism for supporting the rape accused.
When asked about the ministers defending the Kathua rape accused, BJP leader and Lok Sabha MP from Delhi Meenakshi Lekhi said that they were misguided.
BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav said that the ministers – Ganga and Singh – were sent there to pacify the protesters.
