Terrorists attack on Amaranath Yatra pilgrims, what we know so far

New Delhi:

At least 7 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims killed and 15 were injured after terrorists opened fire on a bus carrying Pilgrims in Bantigoo area of Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district. The terrorists were on the bikes and started firing indiscriminately. Among 7 Killed, 5 were women. 

What we know so far: 

# At around 8.20 pm today, terrorists attacked a bus carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in Bantigoo area of Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district. 7 Killed, 15 others including forces personnel injured.

# Prime Minister Modi condemned the attack and said he is pained beyond words on the dastardly attack on peaceful Amarnath Yatris in J&K.

# Security beefed up in the state, a high alert has been issued.

Home Ministry has called an emergency meeting after the attack on Amarnath Yatra Pilgrims.

# Home Minister Rajnath Singh briefed Prime Minister Modi on the situation.

# A high alert has been issued after the attack on pilgrims.

# Traffic on Jammu- Srinagar highway has been suspended.

Internet services suspended in Jammu and Kashmir.

BREAKING NEWS: Amarnath Yatra terror attack live: Terrorists target pilgrims in Anantnag, 7 killed

The CRPF troops, when they reached the spot to rescue the pilgrims, too came under fire from the terrorists.

Terrorists were on bikes and started firing indiscriminately.

The bus carrying pilgrims from Gujarat was reportedly not a registered vehicle and part of the main convoy. Therefore, no security was provided to the bus. The main convoy is escorted by troops.

# Special forces rushed to Anantnag after the attack.

Around 40,000 paramilitary forces have been deployed in Jammu and Kashmir by the central government for the yatra.
